Undiscovered Country: Conspiracy Runs Deeper Than We Thought?
Okay, so I've been rewatching "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (for like, the millionth time lol) and something really struck me this time. We all know Chang was the obvious baddie, pulling strings to sabotage the peace talks. But what if he wasn't the top dog? What if there was someone even higher up pulling HIS strings? Think about it: the precision of the sabotaged torpedoes, the way the Enterprise got framed perfectly, the infiltration of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey...that's not just Chang's style. He's theatrical, flamboyant. But the operation itself is cold, calculated, almost…Starfleet-esque. And then there's Valeris. Supposedly just a misguided idealist. But what if she was being manipulated too, feeding her the right information to radicalize her, making her a patsy for someone else's agenda? My theory? There's a cabal of high-ranking Federation officials (maybe even admirals) who saw peace with the Klingons as a threat to their power and influence. They needed a Klingon attack, a reason to keep the Cold War going. Maybe even someone who stood to gain from new weapons development or resource control. Chang was just their tool, and Valeris was a pawn they sacrificed. They needed an incident that would trigger a response, which would undo the peace process. I know it's a bit out there, but the more I think about it, the more it fits. The movie hints at it, but never names names outright. It's a conspiracy within a conspiracy! What do you guys think? Am I just overthinking it, or is there something more to "The Undiscovered Country" than meets the eye? I bet someone with better access to the original scripts could probably confirm or deny this. Anyway, love to hear your thoughts!
