Only Yesterday: Surprisingly Relatable (Even if I'm No Farmer!)

Okay, so I just finished watching "Only Yesterday," and wow, it was… different. Like, I went in expecting your typical animated feel-good movie, but it's actually super introspective. I didn't even know animated movies could do that, lol. It's about this woman, Taeko, who's like, 27, and she's taking a trip to the countryside to help out with safflower harvesting (which, btw, safflower? Never heard of it!). But on the way, she's CONSTANTLY flashing back to her childhood. At first, I was a little confused, like "why are we seeing her elementary school days all of a sudden?" But it totally works! It's like she's figuring out who she is now by remembering who she was. Some of those childhood scenes were hilarious (the pineapple scene! OMG!) and some were really poignant. Like, the boys in her class not wanting to touch her hand, so brutal. I think we all have those awkward kinda embarrassing moments in our past. Even though I've never worked on a farm, I totally felt what Taeko was going through. Plus having the animation style change made it easier to know where we were time wise. Honestly, I’m not usually into these kinds of movies, but something about it really resonated with me. It made me think about if I’m really living the life I wanted when I was little. And like, am I being true to myself now? Deep stuff, y'all! The ending was bit ambiguous, I was kind of hoping for a more clear ending, but i guess life is a bit like that too. Overall, I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something a little more thoughtful than your average cartoon. Just be prepared for some serious self-reflection! Let me know what you guys thought!
