"Double Impact" - Van Damme times TWO! A Surprisingly Fun Family Watch?

Okay, so hear me out! I know, I know, Jean-Claude Van Damme might not be the first name that pops into your head when you're looking for something family-friendly, but we watched "Double Impact" last night and the kids actually loved it! I was a little hesitant at first, but honestly, aside from a few fight scenes that are definitely PG-13 (nothing too graphic, though, thankfully!), it was surprisingly fun. The plot is pure 90s cheese: Van Damme plays twins, Alex and Chad, separated as babies. One's a martial arts instructor in Paris and the other's a smuggler in Hong Kong. The moment they meet up and realize they're twins, it's just gold. The twin concept is entertaining for the little ones. It has a lot of martial arts fight and kick and stuff that boy love. The car chase scenes were thrilling. There is some language. The kids just thought it was hilarious to see 'dad' (okay, not their dad, but… you get it!) fighting himself. The scene where they're trying to learn each other's accents? Hysterical! Don't get me wrong, this isn't high art, LOL. The acting is… well, it's Van Damme. But it's the sheer over-the-top action and the ridiculous premise that make it so enjoyable. The whole revenge plot is pretty standard, but the twins' bickering and their contrasting personalities kept us all entertained. I honestly think my oldest (he's 11) is going to try and learn to do the splits now. Pray for our furniture, folks! I should say that there is brief nudity, but is not exposed. No sexy scenes, nor is it implied. But it is worth mentioning, because it depends on how strict you are. Overall, if you're looking for a goofy, action-packed movie night that the whole (older) family can get into, "Double Impact" might just surprise you. Just be prepared for some seriously outdated fashion and some questionable dialogue! It was a fun flashback from my own childhood. And honestly, anything that gets my kids off their phones for a couple of hours is a win in my book.
