"Hudson Hawk": Underrated Gem or Just...Weird? (Let's Discuss!)

Okay, so I just rewatched "Hudson Hawk" for the first time in ages and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I mean, Bruce Willis singing while he's robbing places? Danny Aiello as his grumpy sidekick? And then there's the whole Mayflower Foundation/Leonardo da Vinci MacGuffin thing...it feels like a fever dream, but a strangely entertaining one. I'm particularly curious about the tone of the movie. Was it MEANT to be this over-the-top and ridiculous? Or did the filmmakers just kind of lose their way somewhere along the line? The scene where Hudson Hawk and Tommy are trying to figure out the timing of the robberies based on the song lengths is actually kinda brilliant, but then you have moments like the kidnapping of Sandra Bernhard's character that just feel...off. Also, Andie MacDowell...what was going on there? Her character seemed so out of place. I've heard some people call it a misunderstood comedy, and others call it a complete trainwreck. I honestly feel like it's somewhere in the middle. It's got moments of genuine hilarity mixed with baffling plot points and some questionable acting choices. Anyone else feel like you need a flowchart to understand wtf is happening with the plot sometimes? So, thoughts? Is "Hudson Hawk" a quirky cult classic waiting to be rediscovered, or is it just a cinematic oddity best left forgotten? What's your interpretation of its 'so bad it's good' appeal (or lack thereof)? Let's discuss! I want to know if I'm alone in my confused adoration of this truly bizarre film.
