"Doc Hollywood": More Than Just a Rom-Com? My Wild Theory

Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Doc Hollywood" (yeah, I know, late to the party!). I went in expecting a fluffy 90s rom-com, and while it definitely is that, I kinda think there's more going on under the surface. Hear me out. What if Ben Stone's 'sentence' in Grady isn't just about community service? What if it's a low-key, karmic intervention to show him the real value of medicine? Like, he's so caught up in the Beverly Hills dream (money, status, plastic surgery) that he's completely forgotten why he wanted to be a doctor in the first place. The whole Grady experience, especially his connection with Lou and maybe even the gruff Herbert, forces him to confront that. And the love triangle with April? Totally symbolic of choosing genuine connection over superficiality. I know, I know, it's probably just me overthinking things. But that moment when he's delivering the baby in the middle of the storm, and he looks genuinely fulfilled? That felt way deeper than just a plot point. And his decision to stay? It felt earned in a way that a lot of rom-coms don't. Maybe I'm just a sap for a good character arc, but I think it's a surprisingly insightful look at ambition vs. purpose, disguised as a lighthearted comedy. What do you guys think? Am I crazy for seeing all this in a movie that features Woody Harrelson as an insurance salesman? Maybe. But it's fun to speculate, right? PS: Julie Warner's hair? Major goals!
