Problem Child 2: Pure 90s Chaos (and a surprisingly good exploding toilet)

Okay, so I just re-watched Problem Child 2 for the first time in like, maybe 20 years? I remember LOVING this as a kid, and while it definitely hasn't aged into some cinematic masterpiece, it's still a blast of pure 90s ridiculousness. I mean, the whole concept is insane - Junior's just straight-up evil, but in a cartoony way. He really hates women who are after his dad. Some of the stunts are surprisingly effective, especially considering it's a 'family' movie. I was definitely laughing at that exploding toilet scene near the end. It's not exactly subtle humor, but come on, it's an exploding toilet! What's not to like? John Ritter is great as Ben, always trying to be a good guy even when his son is actively trying to ruin his life. And Laraine Newman as Lawanda Dumore? Hysterical! She's SO over-the-top, and that's exactly what the movie needs. Like, she's a legit movie villain, and she doesn't even need to punch anyone or fire a gun. Junior does all that for her. I will say, some of the jokes definitely didn't age well, and there's a few scenes that are kinda cringey now. Plus, the plot is paper thin, even by kids film standards. But if you're looking for a nostalgia trip with some legit funny (and genuinely destructive) moments, Problem Child 2 is worth a watch. Especially if, like me, you appreciate a good practical stunt mixed in with a little bit of low-brow comedy which this movie has plenty of. I also gotta admit, the 'Junior fighting with the other kid over the girl' subplot? Yeah, I remember thinking that was intense when I was a kid. Looking back now, it's pretty harmless, but it kinda adds to the sheer chaotic energy of the whole movie. I still think it's a fun movie, even if my tastes have changed a lot since I watched it as a kid.
