White Fang (1991) - Ok, I sobbed a little (ok, a lot)
Okay, so I just finished watching White Fang (the 1991 one!) and wow, my emotions are a MESS right now. Seriously, I knew going in it was going to be a bit of a tearjerker, but I wasn't prepared for how much I'd actually connect with the story. Like, who knew a half-wolf dog could make me feel so much?! The scenery was beautiful, of course, but it was Ethan Hawke's performance and the bond he formed with White Fang that really got to me. I think what hit me hardest was the initial part where Beauty Smith is just awful to White Fang. Ugh, that just broke my heart, seeing him treated like that. And then when Jack (Ethan Hawke) rescues him and slowly earns his trust... the patience was just so touching. I'm a sucker for stories about loyalty and overcoming adversity, and this one just nailed it. The scene where White Fang finally defends Jack from the other wolf... I was clutching my blanket, I swear I was! I may have yelled at the TV a little. Just a little, lol. It wasn't perfect, I guess. Some of the acting was a little cheesy, but honestly, I was too busy being emotionally invested to really care. This is definitely one of those movies where you need a box of tissues handy. And maybe a puppy to cuddle with afterwards. 😉 Has anyone else watched this recently? What were your thoughts? Was I just being overly sensitive, or did it hit you hard too?
