Regarding Henry: What did you think of the real Henry?

Okay, so the other night the kiddos were FINALLY asleep, and my husband and I were flipping channels and landed on "Regarding Henry." I hadn't seen it in years, and I completely forgot how heartwarming it is. Honestly, it's a great reminder of how precious those everyday family moments really are. Like, seeing Henry (Harrison Ford) struggle to relearn everything, and his wife (Annette Bening) and daughter (Mikki Allen) being so patient and loving... it got me a little choked up! But here's what I was thinking about... before the accident, Henry was kind of a jerk, right? Ruthless lawyer, not really present with his family... like, could you REALLY love that guy? I get that the amnesia wiped the slate clean and gave him a chance to be a better person, but was he someone WORTH saving before? Did the movie do enough to show us why they were still together before he was shot, because it seemed kinda unbelievable to me? And I know it's a movie, but what are the odds of someone completely changing their personality and morals like that? It's fascinating, but also… a little far-fetched? I just wonder if anyone else felt that way, or if I'm missing something? Did the movie gloss over the hard parts of dealing with someone who has such a traumatic brain injury? I think they did a good job showing how frustrating it was but, also, it was all resolved a little too nicely for me. Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was, a good tear-jerker. But I kept thinking about the 'old' Henry and wondering if the 'new' Henry was someone his wife and daughter could really be happy with long term, you know? What are your thoughts?
