The Commitments - Underrated Gem?! Thoughts??
Okay, so I just rewatched The Commitments with Sarah and Liam last night, and I'm wondering why this movie isn't talked about MORE?! Seriously, it's hilarious and the music just slaps. For anyone who hasn't seen it (go watch it!), it's about this dude Jimmy in Dublin who decides to form a soul band...in like, the most unlikely place ever. The casting is just incredible too - you actually believe these people are just regular folks trying to make some music. I mean, Declan Quinn (the guitarist) is just...wow. Seriously talented, and those facial expressions! And the singers, especially Imelda Quirke, just blew me away. That scene in the church when she's belting out "Chain of Fools" gives me goosebumps every single time. Liam kept saying that it was unrealistic anyone would act like Dean but I disagreed. People do that sort of stuff, don't they? But here's my question: Do you think the band was doomed from the start? Like, with all the infighting and egos, was Jimmy ever going to keep them together? Part of me thinks it was inevitable, but another part of me wanted them to become huge. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for the underdog story! Also, am I the only one who thinks there should have been a sequel? Imagine what The Commitments would be doing now, like 20 years later?! Disaster, probably, but a hilariously entertaining disaster, right?
