Out For Justice: Still Holds Up (Even Though Seagal Can't Act)
Okay, so I just re-watched "Out For Justice" for like, the millionth time. I know, I know, Steven Seagal probably isn't winning any Oscars anytime soon, but this movie is pure 90s Brooklyn gold. Gino Felino is basically a one-man wrecking crew, and I love how he knows EVERYONE in his neighborhood. It's just so damn charming, even when he's breaking arms. What always gets me is Richie Madano, played by William Forsythe. He's terrifyingly good. Like, genuinely unsettling. Remember that scene in the pool hall where he's just totally unhinged? Chills. And the way he keeps repeating "I'm gonna kill you" to Gino? So simple, so effective. I actually think Forsythe carries the film, tbh. Without a decent villain, Seagal's usual stoicism wouldn't land nearly as well. I also noticed this time around how much location shooting there is. Real Brooklyn streets, real businesses... it gives it a grittiness a lot of action movies lack. It's not all smooth and polished, you know? There's a realness to it that adds to the tension. Plus, the soundtrack is killer. Who doesn't love a good 80s/90s action movie soundtrack? I'd def listen to it in my car, if I had a car. Anyway, yeah. "Out for Justice." Still cheesy, still violent, still ridiculously fun. And still makes me want pizza. I think I'm going to go watch the pool hall scene specifically, because damn that was great casting.
