Is "The Hard Way" underrated or am I just nostalgic?
Okay, so I was just watching "The Hard Way" (the 90s one with Michael J. Fox and James Woods) with the kiddos. Well, mostly watched. My youngest kept asking why it was so loud (lol, 90s action movies!). I totally forgot how funny it is! James Woods is absolutely manic in it, and the contrast between him and Michael J. Fox's goofy actor is just gold. Here's my question: Is it just nostalgia goggles, or is this movie actually REALLY good? There are some parts that haven't aged perfectly, I'll admit (some of the language is a bit much, had to fast forward a couple of times), but the chemistry between the leads is undeniable. That scene in the diner where Nick is trying to "act tough" and Brix is completely mortified? Hilarious! I'm wondering what other people think. Did anyone else grow up on this movie? Does it hold up? And also, is there some weird alternate ending where the "killer" turns out to be someone else? I SWEAR as a kid I thought that was the twist, but maybe I completely made that up. Let me know your thoughts! Also, any other good action comedies from that era that are sorta family-friendly (besides Last Action Hero, obviously)? I'm always looking for something to watch with the kids on movie night.
