Critters 3: Yeah, it's Critters. But... Leo!

Okay, so Critters 3. Look, nobody's gonna pretend it's winning any Oscars, right? BUT. But! As a low-budget monster movie kinda guy, especially with practical effects, there's a certain charm to it. The critters themselves are still pretty gnarly and fun, especially when they're bouncing around and chewing on stuff. I'm a sucker for that old-school creature design. Compared to the first two, the story's kinda whatever - apartment building gets overrun, kids have to fight back, blah blah. What elevates it though? Freaking Leonardo DiCaprio! It's wild seeing him so young, just a kid. He's actually pretty good, even in this goofy flick. Makes you wonder if the director even knew he was directing a future A-lister. I mean, the whole movie feels like a step down in budget honestly, like someone found a warehouse full of Critter puppets and said 'let's make a movie!'. But Leo's presence makes it a slightly more memorable watch. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I get a kick watching this one. My favorite scene is when the Critters are swarming that old lady. It's just so over-the-top and silly, but the practical effects make it work. Like, you almost believe she's being attacked by a horde of furry, biting aliens. Plus, the apartment setting adds a claustrophobic vibe, which helps build the tension (even if it's cheesy tension). It's no Gremlins, but for a late-night creature feature, Critters 3 delivers some low-rent thrills. Plus, seriously, Leo! So, if you're looking for high art, steer clear. But if you're in the mood for some cheesy creature action with a surprisingly famous face, give it a whirl. What did you guys think? Am I completely off base here?
