"Nothing But Trouble": More Like Nothing But WHAT?
Okay, so last night I stumbled onto "Nothing But Trouble" from 1991. I think I was half-asleep when I picked it, lured in by Dan Aykroyd's... interesting makeup. And what even WAS that movie? Chevy Chase is along for the ride, which is usually a good sign, right? Wrong. I'm still trying to figure out if it was supposed to be a comedy or a full-blown nightmare fuel situation. Like, the whole Judge Alvin Valkenheiser thing was just... disturbing. Especially the rollercoaster scene in the house. Grotesque. And did I mention Aykroyd directed this thing?! Someone let him direct. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I give him credit for creativity--but, yeah, creative nightmare fuel. The whole plot of getting pulled over for reckless driving turning into a bizarre trial by a mutant hillbilly judge was... a choice. A bold choice, I guess. I definitely wouldn't call it a good one. Like, I get the dark humor, kinda, but it just felt so relentlessly weird. Demi Moore was in it too, which is the only thing preventing it from being a total waste of time. But even she couldn't save it. I'm generally into weird movies, but this one just felt... off. It's like it tried to be "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" but with more exploding hot dogs. And the Bonecrusher? WHAT WAS THAT? It's like something out of a fever dream. I kept waiting for the movie to snap and become a coherent story, but it just kept doubling down on the bizarre. Maybe I was too tired to appreciate its... unique charm. Or maybe it just doesn't have any. Honestly, I'm curious if anyone actually likes this movie. Like, genuinely enjoys it unironically? Let me know, because I'm seriously questioning my sanity after watching it. Maybe I'll stick to more straightforward comedies tonight. Or maybe I'll just stare at the wall. Either way, probably a better use of my time than "Nothing But Trouble". I'm giving it a solid 2/5 stars. Mostly for the sheer audacity of it all. And Demi Moore. (Who was probably paid very well to make this movie.)
