Omen IV: The Awakening - Okay, let's talk about THAT...

Alright everyone, and welcome to andersoncuts for a special post... So, Omen IV: The Awakening. Look, I’m a completionist. I had to see it. And… it EXISTS. I kinda feel like the TV movie format really hampered it, you know? I'm all about a slow burn, but some of the scenes just felt...long. Like we were waiting for something to happen, and then it did, but it wasn't impactful because of the pacing before it. What I will say is that the idea of a female Antichrist is actually pretty cool. Delia is genuinely creepy as a kid. I thought Asia Vieira did a solid job. The whole adoption angle with the attorneys was interesting too, giving people a sense of complacency (attorneys in the 90s weren't seen as the most evil people, so it's easy to imagine the audience feeling comfortable with them) and the way she manipulated them from the start was smartly done. The nanny stuff definitely ramped up the tension. The whole plot twist of the surrogate mother not being dead was nice too, but again, the pacing didn't do it any favors. That reveal should have landed HARDER. Speaking of ramping up tension. There's a scene where Delia 'accidentally' causes her friend Jessica to fall off the swing, which is...brutal. Actually, throughout the movie, some of the practical effects are pretty good, especially considering the budget. Nothing will ever top the original Omen's deaths, but there are a couple moments here that legitimately made me wince. Overall, the tension building was spotty, but not completely absence. Ultimately, Omen IV is flawed. Majorly. But, there are some genuinely creepy moments and interesting ideas buried in there. I'd say it's worth a watch if you're a die-hard Omen fan, but temper your expectations, and maybe skip forward a bit if you are feeling impatient.
