Anyone else find "Switch" (1991) strangely...ahead of its time?

Okay, so full disclosure, I stumbled across this movie on late-night TV last week, "Switch" with Ellen Barkin and Jimmy Smits. I'd NEVER heard of it before. Premise is kinda wild – sexist jerk gets killed and comes back as a woman to learn a lesson. It's definitely got some issues in how it approaches gender stuff, but I gotta admit, for a 90s comedy, it's surprisingly biting at times. What REALLY got me thinking was the whole 'fish out of water' aspect, but with a gender twist. Barkin actually pulls off a pretty believable masculine swagger, which is impressive. And some of the practical effects are surprisingly good, especially considering the budget. Did anyone else notice the fight scene in the bar? It's not John Wick level, but for the time, it's got some decent impact. I especially liked when she threw the bottle at the guy's head. But seriously though, does anyone else get the feeling this movie was trying to be a commentary on toxic masculinity, but maybe just didn't have the language to really nail it? I mean, the concept is almost progressive, even if the execution is a bit clunky at times. I'm curious if anyone else has thoughts on this one, or if I'm just overthinking a random 90s comedy. Also, I can't seem to find who directed this movie, maybe i'm blind? Why is that information so hard to find?
