Reservoir Dogs: Still Holds Up Like Crazy!
Okay, so I finally rewatched Reservoir Dogs after like, a decade, and HOLY CRAP, it's still so freakin' good. Like, I knew it was good back in the day, but seeing it again with older eyes? Mind. Blown. I forgot how much of a genius Tarantino is with dialogue. The opening scene in the diner, just bickering about Madonna and tipping... it's mundane, but it totally sets the stage for the chaos to come. Also, Michael Madsen as Mr. Blonde? Iconic. That torture scene with "Stuck in the Middle With You" playing is disturbing, but also kinda... unforgettable. Sorry not sorry, haha. What I really appreciated this time around was the tension. You know something went horribly wrong with the heist, but you only get pieces of the puzzle. Mr. White's loyalty to Mr. Orange is so intense, even though you know Orange is hiding something big. And then there's Mr. Pink! Steve Buscemi NAILED that role. I mean, who argues about not tipping THAT much? He's such a cheapskate, lol. But he's also super smart and suss. The whole 'who's the rat' thing kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I think what makes it work so well is that you never actually SEE the heist. You just see the aftermath and the fallout. It leaves SO much to the imagination. Also, the non-linear storytelling is pretty cool, although tbh the first time I watched it I was kinda confused, ha! But now I get it. Makes it way more interesting. It's definitely violent, but it's like, artistic violence, if that makes any sense? Like, it's not just gore for the sake of gore. It all serves a purpose, and it always moves the story foreward. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, or haven't seen it in a while, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's a crime classic for a reason (pun intended!). What's your fave character? I'm leaning towards Mr. White this time around. Harvey Keitel is the MAN.
