Still Finding New Stuff in Reservoir Dogs (like, seriously)
Okay, so I've probably seen Reservoir Dogs like...a ridiculous amount of times. It's one of those comfort movies, ya know? But every time I watch it, I swear I catch something I missed before. This time, it was all about the little details in the dialogue during the warehouse scenes that foreshadow later reveals. Like, the way Mr. White is so quick to defend Mr. Orange, even before he's fully bought into the 'cop' story, is so telling. It's like he wants to believe him, almost needs to. It makes the eventual reveal of Orange being a cop way more tragic, because you see how invested White was. And did anyone else notice the subtle shift in Mr. Blonde's demeanor after the police radio call? It's so slight, but you can see a flicker of something... maybe suspicion? Before he's just this gleeful psycho, but afterwards... it's like he's on edge. I think he was more clued into the setup than he lets on, and I'm not sure if that was intentional on the part of the story or just Michael Madsen adding his own little touch, but it's brilliant. Also, I know everyone talks about the ear scene (and rightfully so, it's brutal!), but it's the before and after that really gets me. The casualness before, the way he just flips on the radio and starts dancing... then the complete lack of remorse afterwards. Chilling. I still get goosebumps every time I watch it. What are your favorite obscure details in Reservoir Dogs? Oh! And one more thing - I always wondered if Nice Guy Eddie knew more than he let on. The way he seemed to try and dismiss Mr. White's concerns about Orange always rang as suss to me. Thoughts?
