Home Alone 2: Still Funny, Still Problematic? 🤔
Okay, so we just watched Home Alone 2: Lost in New York again last night. The kids (8 and 6) were HOWLING. Like, full-body laughter. I gotta admit, it still gets me too, especially Tim Curry as the concierge, Mr. Hector. He's just brilliant! But...man, rewatching it as a parent now, some stuff hits different. First, how does Kevin again get separated from his family?! Like, I get it's a movie, but seriously, parents of the year candidates they are not! And then there's the violence. I know it's slapstick, but the amount of pain those Wet Bandits endure is kinda wild. I mean, I laugh, the kids laugh, but then I wonder if I should be questioning that more? Are we normalizing excessive booby traps here? 😂 I'm probably overthinking it, but still... Also, did anyone else feel kinda bad for the pigeon lady this time around? I think I empathized more with her now that I'm older. My biggest question though: Does anyone think it's aged well? It's still SO much fun, but is it just nostalgia goggles or does it hold up as a genuinely good family movie? I'm torn! What do you guys think? And what other Christmas movies are you all watching this year?
