Okay, I Finally Watched Unforgiven... Whoa.

Alright, alright, I know I'm super late to the party on this one, but I finally sat down and watched "Unforgiven." I kept putting it off because, honestly, westerns aren't usually my thing. I'm a horror girl through and through, but someone told me it's kinda got that dark, gritty, violence-lurking-under-the-surface thing going on that some thrillers do, and they were NOT wrong. First off, Clint Eastwood is a freakin' legend, obviously, but damn he's good in this. The whole idea of William Munny being this reformed killer trying to be a good dad, but then being pulled back into his old life? So messed up! And Gene Hackman as Little Bill? He's so casually terrifying. Like, he's just building a house and being all sheriff-y, but you know he's a total psycho underneath. That scene where he beats up Ned Logen (Morgan Freeman!) was brutal. I actually gasped. I think what got to me the most was the realism of the violence. It wasn't all choreographed and cool, it was messy and ugly and seemed like it really hurt. And the way it shows how violence just creates more violence… heavy stuff. I'm still thinking about it days later. It's definitely not a feel-good movie, obviously, and maybe some western fans will disagree, but I almost feel like this is a horror film in disguise. I gotta say, it's earned its place on the "classics" list. Anyone else feel that way? What did you guys think of the ending? Munny going full-on revenge mode was intense!
