Unforgiven: Clint Eastwood Did What?!
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Unforgiven." I know, I'm super late to the party. Clint Eastwood as a pig farmer turned again into a ruthless bounty hunter? I was seriously hooked from the start. I didn't even know Eastwood directed it! Anyway, I went in thinking it would be a typical Western shootout kinda flick, but it was way more… complicated? Like, William Munny (Eastwood) is trying to be all reformed, but then he just snaps? That scene in the saloon where he just goes full-on killer mode was brutal. I was not expecting that level of violence. Gene Hackman's Little Bill was also a great villain. I loved how even though he was supposed to be the law, he was totally corrupt. The whole thing felt so realistic, almost gritty, in a way a lot of Westerns don't. And Morgan Freeman! Always a joy to see him on screen, even if his character Ned gets a rough deal. I gotta admit, the ending messed with me a bit. Munny just rides off after causing all that carnage, presumably back to his kids? It's a dark ending, and I'm not sure if I liked liked it, but it definitely made me think. Overall, I enjoyed it. Not sure I'd watch it every year or anything but it's a solid watch. Any thoughts on why Munny went so hard at the end? Was it justified?
