Basic Instinct: Still Shocking or Just Dated?

Okay, film buffs, I need to know what you all think about Basic Instinct (1992). I rewatched it last night, and wow, it's... something. I'm Priya, by the way, a big fan of films from all over the world. I love exploring how cultures influence storytelling, but sometimes a good old Hollywood thriller hits the spot. Catherine Tramell is one cold, calculating character and Sharon Stone absolutely nails the role. But I found myself wondering if the sexual tension and the “shocking” scenes still have the same impact today. Like, the interrogation scene – iconic, yes, but does it feel a little... exploitative now? Or is it still empowering? I'm conflicted! We've seen female characters in plenty of films, but i'm not sure if that scene worked as it should. And Michael Douglas as Nick Curran? I kinda feel like he's just perpetually confused, which, fair enough, given the circumstances. But does anyone else think the whole "damaged cop" trope is a bit overdone? Maybe that's just me. I remember thinking he was so charismatic when I saw it the first time! What about the ending? Did you buy it? I feel like they left it deliberately ambiguous, but I'm still not sure what to think about it! Is Catherine the mastermind or just playing a very elaborate game? Let me know your theories and if you think it still holds up after all these years! I'm eager to see your perspective!
