A Few Good Men: Courtroom Drama That Still Holds Up (Mostly)

Alright, just rewatched A Few Good Men and had to chime in. As a tech guy I'm usually all about the explosions and CGI, but good storytelling is good storytelling, right? This flick definitely delivers on that front. The writing is sharp as hell, and Nicholson absolutely chews the scenery in the courtroom scenes. I'm always paying attention to sound design, and the echoes in that tense witness box atmosphere are just perfect. That moment when Kaffee finally gets Jessup to crack? Chills, man. Chills. I gotta say though, the direction is... functional. It's not bad, just not particularly showy. No crazy camera angles or anything that really pops. And honestly, some of the performances outside of Cruise, Moore, and Nicholson feel a little flat? Like, the other Marines sometimes felt like they were just reading lines. Maybe that's intentional, to make them seem like automatons under Jessup's control, but still. Still, the core message about duty and honor resonates, even if it's a bit heavy-handed at times. Plus, the legal maneuvering is genuinely engaging, even if I'm sure it takes liberties with actual military law. It's a classic for a reason, imperfections and all. Anyone else feel the same way? What are your favorite moments or performances?
