Porco Rosso: Okay, But Can We Talk About the Style?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Porco Rosso after hearing about it forever. It was…cute? I liked the whole vibe, very old-timey adventure-y. This flying pig guy fighting sky pirates in Italy during the 30s is definitely a concept. I'm not sure it's, like, top-tier amazing but it was a fun watch. Did anyone understand why he was cursed as a pig? But can we PLEASE talk about the fashion? Seriously, peak early 20th-century European chic. Porco's red leather jacket is iconic, obviously, but look at Gina! Her dresses are STUNNING. That green one she wears at the Hotel Adriano? I need it in my closet ASAP. And Fio! She's so cool and practical, but even her overalls are adorable and perfectly fitted. The whole look of the movie made me want to hop on a plane to some seaside Italian town, even if there are pirates. I actually preferred Fio to Porco, tbh. She's smart and has a great work ethic, she's obviously the future of aircraft engineering, and the animation of her expressions is just amazing. I just think the movie could have been about her more, but whatever. She did make those fantastic repairs to his plane which were amazing. It was a bit slow for my taste. Overall, a solid watch. I'd give it like a 7/10. Definitely worth it just for the fashion inspo, though. I can already see myself styling some oufits based on it! Anyone know where I can get a good red leather jacket?
