Porco Rosso Appreciation Post - "A pig that doesn't fly is just a pig"
Alright folks, let's talk Porco Rosso. I just rewatched it again and I'm still blown away. This movie hits different, you know? It's got adventure, romance, amazing animation, and it's all wrapped up in this kinda melancholic, world-weary vibe. I think it's my favorite Miyazaki film, and that's saying something! Anyone else get chills when Porco's talking about being a pig rather than a fascist? "I'd rather be a pig than a fascist." That whole scene where he explains why he became Porco Rosso...it's so heavy. And then there's Fio! Talk about a strong female character. The whole scene where she's fixing his plane, absolutely fearless in the face of Curtis' ego, is phenomenal. "You don't have to be so proud. I'm a mechanic." I'm curious what other people think about the ending. I know it's intentionally ambiguous, but does Porco turn back into a human? I kinda like the mystery, but I'm also dying to know! Also, underrated moment: when Porco is eating spaghetti and narrowly misses being shot down. Who else wanted a plate of spaghetti after that scene? What are your favorite quotes or moments? Let me know. "Better a pig than a fascist... or does it depend on the pig?" Heh.
