Army of Darkness: Underrated...Maybe? Okay, Hear Me Out

Alright, alright, before you all grab your pitchforks, let's talk Army of Darkness. Everyone seems to love this flick, calls it peak Sam Raimi, the best in the Evil Dead trilogy, blah blah blah. And yeah, it's funny. It's got Bruce Campbell being, well, Bruce Campbell. But does that automatically make it great? I'm not so sure. My problem isn't the camp. I get the camp. But sometimes it feels like they leaned too hard into it. Remember the scene where Ash has to say the magic words? Okay, comedic gold, I'll give you that. But the whole 'building a better boomstick' montage? Felt kinda...padding, almost? Like they needed to stretch things out. The special effects, while charmingly dated, are also pretty distracting at times. And honestly, the ending? The original one with the post-apocalyptic future? WAY better than the studio-forced happy ending. It gives Ash's character a touch of real tragedy. Instead we get forced slapstick. I know, I know, its a comedy. But the dark ending really sold it. Look, I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It's just... overrated. It's a fun, goofy ride, but let's not pretend it's some untouchable cinematic achievement, alright? There, I said it. Flame away.
