Sister Act? Hear Me Out...
Okay, okay, so I know what you're thinking: Mikecinema, action dude, watching Sister Act? But gimme a sec. I was flipping channels late one night and it was on, and honestly, I got sucked in. No, it's not got explosions or crazy car chases, but there's a certain… energy to it that I dig. I mean, Whoopi Goldberg is just straight-up hilarious. The whole concept of a Reno lounge singer hiding in a convent is just ripe for comedy. And the singing? Those nuns tear it up! I'm serious, that transformation of the choir from a bunch of out-of-tune mumblers to a gospel powerhouse? That's some underdog story right there. And Mother Superior's face throughout the whole thing is priceless. The scene where they're singing "I Will Follow Him" in the church and the mob guys are searching for her? That's some good tension building right there. Reminds me a little of how tension gets built in The Fugitive but in a very different context, obviously. Look, I'm not saying it's some lost action film gem, but its got its own kind of…'action'. The way Deloris shakes things up in that convent is like a tornado hitting a small town. It's funny, it's heartwarming, and honestly, those musical numbers slap. Plus, I’m kinda rooting for Deloris to outsmart the mob. Anyone else find themselves enjoying this flick more than they expected? Or am I losing my edge and goin' soft? Maybe I'm just getting old, but i love how many feel-good movies came out of the 90s. They just aren't being made like that anymore. Maybe its time for a Sister Act rewatch!
