Last of the Mohicans: Just noticed something wild on like my 5th rewatch...

Okay, so I've probably seen "The Last of the Mohicans" (obvs the '92 version, hello!) like, five or six times. It's just so perfectly angsty and scenic and... well, you know. Anyway, I always was so focused on Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis, swoon) and Cora (Madeleine Stowe, queen) that I think I missed something REALLY messed up about Magua. It's when he's giving that speech about his village being burned and his wife taken by the English soldiers, right? I always took it at face value as like, "Okay, this is why he's so vengeful." But this time, I was really watching his face and the way he's pacing. The dude is enjoying telling the story, almost reveling in the pain he inflicts on Munro and everyone else listening! He's not just seeking revenge, he's getting off on it or something. It made him so much creepier and complex. Like, did anyone else pick up on that, or am I just projecting my own weirdness onto Magua? And does that make him a more compelling villain in a way? He's not just driven by revenge, he's... sadistic? I don't know, it just completely changed how I viewed his whole character arc. I mean, Wes Studi is amazing anyway, but this new layer just blew my mind a little. Let me know what you think! I would love to hear another viewpoint...
