Last of the Mohicans: Uncas deserved BETTER, change my mind

Okay, so I just finished watching "The Last of the Mohicans" (again, lol). And man, that ending STILL gets to me. Like, Cora picks Hawkeye (who's cool, I guess, but kinda bland imo) and Uncas... poor Uncas gets yeeted off a cliff. I'm not saying Hawkeye and Cora aren't cute or whatevs, but Uncas and Alice were everything. They understood each other on a deeper level, y'know? Plus, he had that quiet intensity. Okay, I'll admit Madeline Stowe is great and Daniel Day-Lewis is okay, but whatever. My theory? The director, whoever they are (seriously, I always forget), totally chickened out. They wanted the safe, predictable white-guy-gets-the-girl ending because...Hollywood. But imagine how much more powerful it would have been if Alice had survived and built a new life with Uncas? Like, representing the possibility of true unity between cultures instead of just another tragic romance. It would've flipped the whole 'doomed Native American' trope on its head. And another thing, Magua is a good villain but they turned him into a caricature there at the end. Like, I get he's fueled by revenge and all that, but the over-the-top screaming and sneering felt kinda cheap. He just stood there and got shot! I know, I know, it's a classic. But I honestly believe that if they'd given Uncas and Alice's relationship the weight it deserved, and kept Magua more grounded, it would have been truly legendary. Anyway, just my late-night thoughts. What do you guys think? Am I totally alone in this? Someone back me up!
