The Bodyguard: Okay, Hear Me Out (Again)
Alright, people, let's talk The Bodyguard again. I know, I know, I've probably seen it like 20 times. But I swear, every time I watch it, I notice something new. This time, it was the tiny nuances in Frank Farmer's (Costner) reactions. Like, when he first meets Rachel (Whitney, RIP), and she's all diva-ish and late, you can see this flicker of 'seriously?' in his eyes that's almost imperceptible. It's those little things that sell Costner's stoicism, y'know? And let's be real, the chemistry between him and Whitney is INSANE. That almost-kiss in the club after the riot? Whew. Still gives me chills. And I finally realized why the stalker is so freaky. It's not just the letters (although those are creepy AF), it's how he's always THERE in the background. At the cabin, at the charity event... he's like a shadow. Talk about unsettling. I think what dates it is the cell phone technology - huge brick phones! The pacing is kinda slow by today's standards, especially at the beginning, but honestly? I don't even care. It's a comfort movie for me and i will always watch it when its on. One thing I never really got was why Rachel's sister was into Frank? Like, I get that he's Kevin Costner, but the whole subplot feels a little...forced? Does anyone else think that? Maybe she just wanted someone stable in her life, I dunno. Anyway, yeah, The Bodyguard. Still cheesy, still predictable, but still gets me every time. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good love story with a healthy dose of '90s nostalgia and Whitney Houston slaying every single song. Anyone else catch some details I missed this time around? Let me know cause i'm sure to watch it again eventually!
