"And I Will Always Love You" ...Or Will I?: Bodyguard Conspiracy
Okay, fam, let's talk The Bodyguard (1992). Not gonna lie, it's a classic precisely because it's kinda cheesy. But I've been rewatching it (ya know, for the millionth time) and a crazy idea hit me. What if the stalker wasn't really the main threat? What if… wait for it...it was Frank Farmer's PTSD? Hear me out! We see Frank is hyper-vigilant, right? Always scanning for threats, even when he's off duty -- "Eyes open, ears open." – his famous words. But is he seeing genuine danger, or is he projecting his past trauma from the Reagan assassination attempt onto Whitney Houston's character, Rachel Marron? The creepy letters could be real, but think about it: he's constantly escalating the security, making demands, and basically controlling Rachel's life. "I'm here to protect you. That's all. I don't take sides." But is he, really? Or is he trying to regain control over a situation where he feels powerless, just like he did when he failed to protect Reagan? Obviously, the ending throws a wrench in this a bit. But what if the actual threat was magnified by Frank's own paranoia? Like, maybe the stalker was just a low-level obsessed fan who got egged on by Frank making such a big deal out of everything. It's a stretch, I know, but it makes you think, right? Also, can we just acknowledge how incredibly awkward the Oscar's scene is? Dude literally takes a bullet for her but then just...walks away at the end. Ice cold! Anyway, let me know what you think. Am I totally off my rocker, or is there something to this theory? I'm ready for your best lines.
