Lethal Weapon 3: Underrated Gem or Just...Okay?
Okay, sci-fi's my usual jam, but sometimes you gotta appreciate a good action flick, right? I re-watched Lethal Weapon 3 the other day, and I've got some thoughts. I know, I know, it's not exactly 'Blade Runner,' but hear me out. For a 90s action movie, it actually holds up pretty well. The whole concept of a corrupt ex-cop using police knowledge to arm gangs? That's a pretty solid, almost believable, villain plot. Kinda like a dark mirror of everything Riggs and Murtaugh stand for. I'll admit, it's got its cheesy moments (ice cream truck explosion, anyone?), but Leo Getz is pure gold, as always. Joe Pesci just owns that role. And Rene Russo as Lorna Cole? She's a total badass and really adds a cool dynamic to the Riggs/Murtaugh bromance. Seriously, the scene where she's comparing scars with Riggs is surprisingly touching, in a Lethal Weapon kind of way. But, like, is it amazing? Probably not. The plot is fairly straightforward, and some of the action sequences are a little over-the-top, even for this franchise. Still, it's a fun ride. I kinda dig the world-building aspect, seeing how the LAPD works, even if it's exaggerated for dramatic effect. And you gotta love the classic Riggs and Murtaugh banter. What does everyone else think? Is LW3 a solid sequel or just a decent action flick? I for one think its way better than 4, but thats just me. Maybe its just the 90's kid in me, but I'll always have a soft spot for this one. The world-building, of like, the criminal underworld and the cops trying to contain it, does it really well, despite the over the top action sequences and corny jokes. I just feel like it adds a lot to the overall lore.
