Am I the ONLY One Who Finds 'Beethoven' Overrated AF?
Okay, I'm gonna say it. 'Beethoven' (1992). Everyone LOVES this movie. Nostalgia goggles are strong with this one, I guess. But seriously, am I missing something? The supposedly heartwarming story of this gigantic slobbery dog wrecking everything in sight and basically holding the Newton family hostage? Please. I'm supposed to find that endearing? Like, I get the whole 'finding joy in unexpected places' theme, but this isn't joy, it's chaos! And let's not even talk about the ridiculously evil veterinarian dude. Talk about cartoonishly bad writing. Ed Herrmann is a solid actor, but he's basically the only thing remotely watchable in the whole damn thing. I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but man, I can't be the only one who sees through the saccharine-sweet BS, right? And don't even get me STARTED on the scene where Beethoven supposedly saves the kids from the burglars. Total plot convenience, and let's be real, a GOOD guard dog wouldn't have let the burglars get that far in the first place! Maybe I just prefer my dog movies a little less...predictable? Someone, anyone, tell me I'm not alone in thinking this movie is wildly overrated.
