Under Siege: Is Casey Ryback the REAL Villain?

Okay, so I've been on a directorial deep dive lately (currently knee-deep in John McTiernan, send help) and realized I... kinda forgot about "Under Siege." Yeah, it's a Seagal joint, yeah, it's essentially "Die Hard" on a boat (or battleship, whatever). But a thought occurred to me while rewatching this guilty pleasure the other night. What if Casey Ryback, the seemingly unassuming cook, is actually the real villain? Hear me out! We're told he's a former Navy SEAL, framed for something, right? But we only have his word for it. And consider this: Ryback’s way too good at everything. He anticipates every move, knows the ship layout perfectly, and dispatches bad guys with almost supernatural ease. Plus, for a cook, he's got an arsenal stashed away that Rambo would envy. The initial setup with Krill, the commander, feels almost manufactured, like he's setting the stage for the chaos to come. Maybe he wanted the terrorists to take over. Maybe he had his own agenda for the Missouri. What that agenda might be? Okay, I haven't figured that part out yet lol. But there's too much convenient coincidence going on with Ryback. Think about it: the only thing that can explain these plot holes is that maybe Ryback is the only one who knows what's happening. And even though William Strannix is a CIA agent gone rogue, it is possible that he was just trying to stop Ryback with his plan to seize the nuclear warheads. I know, it's a crazy theory. Probably utter nonsense. But next time you watch, pay attention to Ryback’s actions. Does he react to the situation, or does he control it? I’m genuinely curious what other director-focused folks think. Am I reaching here, or is there something subtly sinister about our supposedly heroic cook?
