Far and Away: Epic Romance or Just...Okay?

Okay, so I just rewatched "Far and Away" for probably the millionth time, lol. I have such mixed feelings about this movie, you guys. Like, on the one hand, young Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are ridiculously good-looking, and the Irish accents are... well, they're definitely there. The scenery is GORGEOUS, the whole sweeping landscapes of Ireland and then Oklahoma? chef's kiss. And who doesn't love a good 'rags to riches' type story? But like... the plot is kinda all over the place, right? They go from Ireland to Boston to Oklahoma, getting into fistfights and horse races and trying to claim land... It's a LOT. I kinda wish they'd focused a bit more on the land rush itself? That scene was AMAZING, with the horses and people scrambling everywhere. And the whole thing with her parents trying to get her back felt kinda tacked on. It's like they threw every possible dramatic element into one movie and hoped it would stick. Also, can we talk about how RIDICULOUSLY lucky they are? Like, seriously, they survive everything! Freezing winters, betrayals, almost getting killed multiple times.... it's a bit much, even for a movie, lol. Still, I always get a little choked up at the end when they finally get their piece of land. Maybe it's just the romantic in me, but I can't help but root for them, even if their journey is kinda insane. So yeah, overall, I'd say "Far and Away" is a flawed but enjoyable movie. Definitely worth a watch if you're in the mood for a historical romance with some epic scenery. But don't go in expecting a totally realistic portrayal of the Irish diaspora or the Oklahoma land rush. What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh or too forgiving? Let me know!
