Okay, Hear Me Out: Is Bombay the Real Bad Guy in Mighty Ducks?

Alright, alright, late night movie brain kicking in here. Just finished watching The Mighty Ducks (again, don't judge) and something occurred to me. We're all supposed to root for Gordon Bombay, right? Washed-up lawyer, redeems himself through coaching, yada yada. But...is he kind of a jerk for most of the movie? Like, he's forced to coach these kids because he drove drunk! That's not some heroic origin story, that's just bad life choices. And then he's all mopey and unenthusiastic about it, making the Ducks do ridiculous drills and clearly resenting them. And think about it, his whole arc is about his redemption, not really the kids'. Sure, they benefit from his coaching, but it's like he's using them to fix his own problems. When he gets all serious and starts caring, it feels almost...selfish? He's projecting his past regrets onto them, especially with the whole Jan situation and how he lost the championship game. It's like he needs them to win so he can finally feel good about himself. Maybe I'm reading too much into a kids' movie, lol, but the more I think about it, the more it seems like Bombay is the one who really needs to learn a lesson here. Plus, let's be real, the Hawks were probably just a genuinely good team who trained hard. Sure, Reed was a little cocky, but that's hockey, baby! Maybe Bombay shouldn't have brought his personal vendetta into a kids' game, ya know? Okay, rant over. Let me know if I'm totally off base here. Quack, quack, quack, I guess. Or maybe hiss, hiss, hiss? Also, I should prob watch D2 again soon to confirm if this theory holds water. It's all fuzzy now but the USA team kind of felt a bit arrogant too, haha.
