Forever Young: Cheesy, but Gets Me Every Time
Okay, so I just rewatched Forever Young (1992). Yeah, it's ridiculously cheesy, but admit it, somebody's cutting onions around here. Mel Gibson as the test pilot, Daniel, who gets frozen for like, way longer than he planned... it's a recipe for tears, I tell ya. I love how it just completely leans into the whole 'fish out of water' thing. When he wakes up in the 90s and is all confused by the technology? Classic! Reminds me of that line from Back to the Future: "Great Scott!" Elijah Wood is adorable as Nat, the kid who helps Daniel figure things out. Their relationship is actually kinda sweet, even if it's totally predictable. And Jamie Lee Curtis is, well, Jamie Lee Curtis. She's always a win in my book. But come on, the best part is when Daniel finally finds Helen (Isabel Glasser). That reunion scene at the end? Gets me every. Single. Time. I know, I know, it's manipulative, but who cares when the heartstrings are getting pulled this hard? I think that it may not be the best movie, but the feels, you know! People may poke fun at it, but it's good comfort food--movie wise. Seriously, though, underrated tearjerker if you ask me. What are your thoughts? Am I the only sap who loves this movie?
