Before Sarah Michelle Gellar: The Original Buffy, Kristy Swanson!
Okay, okay, so before we all knew Sarah Michelle Gellar kicking vampire butt, there WAS a Buffy movie with Kristy Swanson. I will defend this movie 'til my dying breath, people. Is it perfect? Nah. But quotable moments? Oh, it's PACKED. From Pike's total 'not bad for a beginner' line when Buffy staked her first vamp, to Merrick's dry sarcasm, it's gold. Remember when Buffy's trying to explain to her friends what she is and says 'I'm like, a thing'? Classic. I think a lot of people write it off because it's...kinda silly? But that's part of the charm! Paul Reubens as Amilyn? Absolute genius. Truly "He was a bad egg. Bad, bad egg." I mean yeah, the special effects are dated, and the plot is wafer thin, but it has this 90s vibe that's pure nostalgia. Plus, it totally set the stage for the TV show, even if it's got a very different tone. And I gotta say, I kinda prefer the relationship between Buffy and Pike in this movie versus Buffy/Angel in the show (don't @ me). Luke Perry brought that perfect bad-boy-with-a-secret-heart vibe. I also appreciate how they didn't try to make it all dark and gritty. It was a fun, action-packed high school comedy with vampires. What's not to love? So, yeah, the '92 Buffy. Underrated. Underappreciated. Full of quotable lines. Don't @ me if you disagree. :)
