The Crying Game - Whoa, okay. Did NOT see that comin'.

Okay, so I finally watched The Crying Game. Been on my list forever, you know how it is. The beginning with the kidnapping and Fergus dealing with Jody? I was kinda into it. Stephen Rea is amazing as Fergus. You can see the conflict eating him alive, even before all the… stuff. And Forest Whitaker as Jody? Total charisma. They actually had believable chemistry, which is weird considering, you know... circumstances. Like, I was actually getting invested in their weird friendship. I honestly thought the IRA stuff was gonna be the main focus. LOL. Then the whole… Dil reveal. Good LORD. I literally yelled at the TV. I'm not gonna lie, I had to pause it and just… process. I get why it was so shocking back in '92. It's still pretty wild now, tbh. I honestly wasn't sure how I felt about it for a while. I mean, the movie definitely earns its name, "The Crying Game", because I was just sitting there like wtf is going on! I'm not sure the second half works as well as the first, but Jaye Davidson is mesmerizing. That whole performance is just... wow. I gotta say, the whole thing is kinda messy and maybe hasn't aged perfectly, but it's definitely stuck with me. Did anyone else feel like Jude (Miranda Richardson) was a little one dimensional? Like, evil IRA lady just to be evil? I dunno, maybe I'm missing something. I still don't know what to think about it, all I know is I'm glad I checked it out. What did everyone else think? Give me your takes...I'm still processing. Oh, and I'm a dumbass, I didn't notice the director was Neil Jordan until the credits! He did Interview with a Vampire too, right? No wonder it's so... intense.
