"Boomerang" - Is this the movie that invented the 'player gets played' trope?

Alright alright alright, scottyscreens here, back at it again with another deep dive into the quotable. This time, I'm thinking about "Boomerang" (1992). I just rewatched it last night, and man, it still holds up. Okay, maybe the fashion doesn't exactly hold up, but the comedy? Gold. Like, straight gold. Remember when Marcus (Eddie Murphy) says, "I'm gonna go to the bathroom, think about my sins, and masturbate!"? Legendary stuff. Pure comedic genius. But seriously, I was thinking about something kinda deeper this time. Was "Boomerang" one of the first movies to really nail that whole 'player gets played' storyline? I mean, Marcus was SO used to running game, and then BAM! Jacqueline (Robin Givens) walks in, and he's the one getting his signals crossed. The whole awkward flirting scene in the elevator, him trying to figure out what she wants...it's peak 90s rom-com awkwardness. And Grace Jones? Whew. That performance was...something else. "I'm gonna have you eatin' out of my hand!" - Iconic. So, my question to y'all is: Where does "Boomerang" rank for you guys in the pantheon of rom-coms, and do you think it paved the way for a lot of those 'gender roles reversed' type stories we see now? Oh man, did anyone ever try the "swoop" move? Tell me I am not the only one. I feel like this conversation's just getting started...
