Housesitter: Anyone else get REALLY stressed watching this??

Okay, so I just watched 'Housesitter' (1992) for the first time and I'm still kinda buzzing from the anxiety, lol. I mean, Goldie Hawn is hilarious as Gwen, don't get me wrong, she's got amazing comedic timing. But the entire premise of her moving into Steve Martin's house and pretending to be his wife just made my palms sweat the whole time! Like, how could she possibly think this wouldn't blow up in her face?! And Newton (Steve Martin) just going along with it? I know it's for the laughs, but seriously, I was so uncomfortable. The scene where Gwen is telling that ridiculously elaborate story about how they met and Newton is just standing there with this terrified look in his eyes... I felt so bad for him! And then the town starts LOVING them and I started getting second-hand embarrassment. It was like watching a trainwreck in slow motion that I couldn't look away from. I kept thinking, 'When is this gonna collapse and everyone hates them?!' I guess what I'm wondering is, did anyone else feel this way? I love a good rom-com, and there WERE definitely funny parts, but the whole time I was just so stressed out about the lying. Was I the only one who couldn't fully enjoy it because I was too worried about the consequences? I need to know I'm not alone in this anxiety-induced movie-watching experience! Maybe I'm just too sensitive lol. Also, did anyone else think that Becky was a total doormat? Like, girl, have some self-respect! Though, maybe that's a discussion for another time... let me know your thoughts on my main anxiety attack first hahaha!
