Okay, "Singles" is low-key a time capsule of my dream life (minus the heartbreak)
So, I finally rewatched "Singles" the other night and, wow, does that movie nail the early 90s Seattle vibe. Like, perfectly. The flannel, the coffee shop hangouts, the grunge music blasting from every corner...it's practically a documentary, lol. I know it's supposed to be about finding love, but honestly, I kind of just want to live in that apartment building with Linda and Janet (Kyra Sedgwick's hair, though, yikes!). But seriously, the whole 'are we ready for commitment?' thing is super relatable, even now. Matt Dillon is a total babe as Cliff, even if he IS kind of a commitment-phobe. And Bridget Fonda? Total queen. I always felt so bad for her with Steve Dunne. He was definitely giving commitment issues. Speaking of Dunne, I always laugh when he's trying to sell his supertrain, like who would ACTUALLY want that!? It's such a '90s solution to traffic problems. It's hilarious. Also, cameos galore! Eddie Vedder fixing Janet's car? Iconic. I think the movie still holds up because it captures that awkward, hopeful, slightly cynical feeling of being in your twenties and trying to figure things out. It's not exactly a rom-com in the traditional sense, more like a romantic dramedy? Defintely worth a watch if you're in the mood for some nostalgia and secondhand embarrassment for all the characters' relationship woes. Anyone else feel like it romanticized Seattle just a little too much, though? I mean, rain all the time? Still, I'd take it over LA any day. Oh! And Paul Giamatti is in it! I didn't realize it was him at first! So young!
