Okay, hear me out... The Cutting Edge as a low-key sci-fi world builder?

Alright, so maybe I'm reaching, but I was rewatching 'The Cutting Edge' the other day (don't judge, it's a classic guilty pleasure), and I started thinking about it differently. Forget the 'will-they-won't-they' romance for a sec. Think about it... they're basically creating a whole new system of competitive skating. Like, their pairs routine is radically different from anything else out there, right? They're bending the rules, pushing the boundaries of what's considered possible, even if it's just within the confined world of figure skating. I mean, Doug Dorsey (D.B. Sweeney) is essentially bringing a hockey player's aggression and power to this super delicate art form. It's like cross-pollinating two completely different cultures! And Kate (Moira Kelly)... she's got all the technical skill but needs that spark, that unpredictability. They're forced to build something from the ground up, a new dynamic between two people from totally opposite backgrounds and skillsets. Kinda like building a whole new alien society when two drastically different races are forced to co-exist, ya know? I'm not saying it rivals Dune or anything, but the core principle is there. When they are on the ice they have to survive and build this culture together. Maybe it's just the lockdown talking, but I'm genuinely curious if anyone else sees this weird parallel? And also, did anyone else think the Pamchenko twist was kinda BS? Like, they just magically perfect it in the nick of time after weeks of failing? That felt a little... convenient. But the world-building with creating how they skate? I just wonder if there's something more there... or have I officially lost it?
