Okay, "Gladiator" (1992) - Underrated or am I missing something?
Okay everyone, Amanda here! So, my husband and I were looking for something a little different to watch last night and stumbled upon "Gladiator" (1992) – not the Russell Crowe one, obviously haha. This one's about a kid, Tommy, who moves to Chicago and gets sucked into underground boxing. It's a lot grittier than what I usually go for, but thought it had a good message overall and the acting wasn't bad either, what are your thoughts? I was honestly surprised I hadn’t heard more about it before. James Marshall (Tommy) was so believably awkward and kinda vulnerable. The whole dynamic between him and his dad felt pretty genuine, too, which is a nice change of pace from some of the over-the-top family movies you see. But some of the darker themes had me wondering if maybe I should have skipped this one for family movie night, or maybe wait til the kids are a bit older. Did anyone else see this one back in the day? Or maybe recently? What did you think? Was it just me, or was there something about that final fight scene that felt a little… rushed? I mean, the whole movie builds up to it, but then it's over pretty quickly. I am curious if anyone else picked up on that or if that's just me being nitpicky! Let's discuss!
