The Getaway (1972) - Anyone else think this movie ROCKS?
Okay, so I just rewatched "The Getaway" from '72 and I'm still buzzing! Like, seriously, how cool are Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw in this flick? I know it's "just an action movie" or whatever, but the whole vibe is just *chef's kiss*. I had no idea who directed it, lol. I mean, the whole setup is kinda simple – ex-con gets out, pulls a heist, everything goes sideways, and he and his wife are on the run. BUT it's the *way* it's done, y'know? The tension is cranked up to eleven the whole time. And the shootout at the hotel in El Paso? Iconic. Plus, the double-crosses?! Talk about nail-biting. It's a total classic, so if you haven't seen it, you def should. I also dig the no-nonsense attitude of McQueen's character, Doc McCoy. He's not trying to be a hero, he just wants to survive. And Ali MacGraw as Carol is way more than just a damsel in distress; she's got a backbone and is willing to do whatever it takes, even if it's morally questionable (that old guy on the train, yikes!). The ending is pretty satisfying too, although I won't spoil it for anyone. The whole thing is just a really fun ride, even if it's a bit dated. Anyone else feel the same? Or am I just totally blinded by my love for vintage action flicks? Also, any other movies from that era with the same kinda vibe I should check out? Hit me up with your recomendations below!
