The Mask: Stanley Ipkiss - Suppressed Rage?
Okay, so I was rewatching "The Mask" with the group last night (still holds up, btw! Jim Carrey is INSANE in this role) and I had this thought. We all kinda laugh at Stanley Ipkiss being this total loser, right? But what if the mask wasn't just turning him into a cartoon character, but also unlocking something that was already there? Like, think about it. He's constantly getting walked all over! His car breaks down, people disrespect him, the bank doesn't appreciate him, and even Tina (Cameron Diaz, looking FLAWLESS) kinda blows him off at first. Maybe the Mask isn't creating his personality as much as it's just letting all that bottled-up frustration and anger explode. It's like, he's always wanted to be confident and powerful, and he finally gets the chance to just let loose with zero consequences. That scene where he gets revenge on the mechanics? So satisfying, but also kinda dark when you think about it. And then there's the whole Loki thing. Loki's all about mischief and chaos, right? So maybe the Mask is amplifying Stanley's subconscious desires for revenge and recognition in a chaotic way. Like, it's not just random zaniness, it's kinda a twisted reflection of what Stanley secretly craves. What do you guys think? Am I totally off base here, or is there something to this theory?
