Joe Kidd: Clint Eastwood vs. the Revolution (and Some Badass Stunts)
Alright action junkies, let's talk some 70s Eastwood. I recently re-watched "Joe Kidd," and while it's not as iconic as, say, "Dirty Harry," it's got its moments. The plot's pretty straightforward: Clint plays this ex-bounty hunter who gets caught in the middle of a land dispute between a wealthy landowner and a group of Mexican revolutionaries led by John Saxon. The main draw for me are the practical stunts. There's this one scene where Eastwood is chasing after the bad guys on horseback, and he literally rides *through* a building! No CGI here, folks, just pure, unadulterated cowboy mayhem. I had to rewind it a couple of times just to see how they pulled it off. Saxon is great as Chama, the revolutionary leader. He brings a real intensity to the role, making you almost sympathize with his cause, even though he's clearly on the wrong side of the law. The supporting cast is a bit hit-or-miss, but Eastwood's presence is undeniable. He's the ultimate cool, collected badass, even when he's outnumbered and outgunned. Now, the movie isn't perfect. The pacing can be a bit slow at times, and the dialogue isn't exactly Shakespeare. Plus a few of the sets look kinda cheap. But honestly, I don't watch Eastwood flicks for the deep philosophical insights. I watch them for the action, the stunts, and the sheer coolness factor. And "Joe Kidd" delivers on all three fronts. If you're an Eastwood fan or you're just looking for a solid western with some awesome practical effects, give it a shot. You won't be disappointed. Oh and they used a rifle to get a train moving! Talk about thinking outside the box.
