La Haine: Whoa, that ending!

Okay, so I just finished watching La Haine and I'm still processing. I went in mostly blind – just knew it was a French movie from the 90s everybody seems to rave about. Honestly, the first half I was kinda just... there. I understood the vibes—stressed out, kinda bored, lots of talking, but I wasn't hooked, ya know? Vinz kept ranting with his whole Scarface act which was annoying. Hubert was the only one that seemed to have any brains. And Saïd was just... Saïd, lol. But then things ramped up. The scene at the police station? Super tense. And that whole sequence in Paris... wow. The casual racism was messed up, and you could feel the frustration building and building. The tension just kept cranking higher and higher. I gotta say, Kassovitz (director, I finally looked it up!) really nailed the feeling of everything being about to explode. And that ENDING. Seriously, WHAT?! No spoilers, obviously, but I literally gasped. It was so sudden and bleak. Like, the whole movie was building to something, but I didn't expect that. It definitely made me think about the whole point of the movie in a different light. Overall, I get why people like it. It's not exactly fun to watch, but it's definitely powerful. It's not going on my "rewatch constantly" list, but I'm glad I saw it. Just wish the ending wasn't so.... gut-wrenching. Anyone else feel like they needed a hug after that?
