DragonHeart: Connery's Voice Acting - Underrated or Just...There?

Okay everyone, I just rewatched DragonHeart. Childhood nostalgia, you know how it is. Still holds up okay-ish for what it is, but something struck me hard this time. Sean Connery as Draco. I mean, iconic voice, right? But I'm genuinely wondering if it's actually a good performance, or if we're just all collectively swooning because...well, it's Sean Connery. Specifically, there are moments, especially early on, where he almost sounds bored? Like he's just reading the lines. When he's supposed to be intimidating, it doesn't quite land sometimes. It's like, is it the voice acting itself, or is it the fact that the script maybe doesn't give him that much to work with initially, besides being sarcastic and dragon-y? I'm not saying I dislike it, mind you. It's Draco! But I'm curious if anyone else has ever felt this way? Like, if a different, less recognizable voice actor had done the same lines, would we be praising it as much? Or would we be saying it's flat? Maybe it's just me overthinking, but I'd love to hear some other takes on this. What do y'all think makes it work (or not work) despite those initial issues?
