Okay, Hear Me Out... "Air Force One" is Kinda Rom-Com-y?

Alright, alright, so I know what you're thinking: Lauren, girl, have you finally lost it? "Air Force One"? With Harrison Ford yelling and Gary Oldman being terrifying? How's that remotely romantic comedy material? But hear me out! Think about it: a powerful man, willing to sacrifice everything (including his life!) for the woman he loves (and his daughter, I guess, but mostly the woman!). The tension! The near misses! The ultimate 'meet cute' of them surviving a terrorist attack together! It's basically "The Proposal" but with more explosions and less Betty White. Okay, I'm maybe stretching it a tiny bit. But seriously, there are elements! The scene where the First Lady figures out the code to the escape pod? Total 'girl power saves the day, just like in all the best meet-cutes' trope. And when the President single-handedly takes down the bad guys, is anyone else picturing a montage set to a power ballad like in a 90s rom-com makeover scene? I'm just saying, the POTUS loves his wife so much he's willing to fight terrorists mid-air to save her. Where's my President Charming in real life, huh? And let's be honest, Gary Oldman is amazing as the bad guy, but there's a certain theatricality to his villainy that almost veers into comedic territory. I mean, he’s SO dedicated to being evil; it's kinda funny. Maybe I'm just twisted, but the whole thing has this heightened, almost absurd quality that, in my head, is only a hair's breadth away from a well-executed rom-com mishap. Plus, the end where he says "Get off my plane!" is iconic and meme-worthy. He is protecting his home (airforce one) after all! So, yeah, maybe I'm alone in thinking "Air Force One" has secret rom-com undertones. But next time you watch it, just try to see it from my perspective. You might be surprised! Or you'll just think I'm nuts... either way, let me know what you think!
