Okay, "Legend of 1900" - Am I the Only One Who Found It Overhyped?
Alright, I finally caved and watched "The Legend of 1900" (thanks, film snob friend). And look, I get it. Sentimental, right? Lonely genius, blah blah. But honestly, did anyone else find it just... kinda boring? Like, the premise is interesting, sure, but the whole thing felt so manufactured, like they were trying way too hard to make you cry. And this '1900' character... he's supposed to be this amazing, world-class pianist, but honestly, his music just sounded okay. Not bad, but not earth-shatteringly good, y'know? The whole jazz battle scene with Jelly Roll Morton? Overblown and, frankly, kinda corny. Morton shows up looking like a sterotypical villain and then 1900 just makes him give up with piano magic? Come on! Maybe I'm just too cynical, but the ending especially rubbed me the wrong way. He's choosing to die with the ship instead of experience the 'limitless' outside world? I thought it was self destructive. He probably hadn't ever left the ship, so how could he know the outside world wouldn't be for him? It felt like a cop-out ending. Am I missing something profound here, or did I just waste two and a half hours on a beautifully shot but ultimately hollow story?
